Who Wants a Fish?

If you are okay with your child bringing home and caring for our class fish, please send an email to brenda.milum@gcisd.net. AN EMAIL STATING YOUR CHILD HAS YOUR PERMISSION TO BRING HOME THE FISH MUST BE SENT TO ME BY WEDNESDAY AT 12:00 P.M.

You will need an aquarium and Beta fish food. These will not be provided.

Our class was so lucky to have Kameron's dad, Mr. Spaulding, spend some time with us today!  It was so nice to have Mr. Spaulding listen to the students practice their Reader's Theater.  Thank you Mr. Spaulding!

How To Presentations

Wow, this has been quite the week of speaking, demonstrating, learning and FUN!  Scholars presented before their classmates the awesome How To's they created using Keynotes.  Pictured below are some of the highlights of the week.  Unfortunately I was unable to capture the excitement and energy that filled our classroom.  Enjoy!

Micallen taught us how to draw Perry.

Jada showed her talents by painting Nandin's nails.

Lizbeth made our mouths water with her mini pizza demonstration!

We all were royalty after Manya taught us how to make a crown.

Nandini helped us all to learn how to braid using string.

Measuring Area

Our scholars have been learning about different types of measurement. Last week we worked with measuring length and the last couple of days have been used to measure area. Later on this week, we will study capacity, temperature and weight.

Perhaps you have heard our exciting news....the chick eggs are here!  If you click on the link above, you can view the eggs anytime you want from the comfort of your home or on the go if you have a mobile device!  We would love to have the students reply to this post by telling the date they predict the first chick egg will hatch.  The winner will receive a prize; let the predicting begin!

Communication and Collaboration

Our guidance lesson with Mrs. Coburn helped us to experience the importance of communication and collaboration.  Our task was to communicate to our partner how to make something using the materials in a baggy.  It was our partner's job to ask questions to seek clarification.  If we were successful, we earned a point.  Boy, did we learn how important it is to communicate clearly and to actively listen in order to collaborate successfully!

Learning Doesn't Happen Just at School!

Nandini has been busy at home looking at everyday objects in different ways.  She decided to use a laundry basket and step stools to build a sturdy structure.  She explained to her family that she needed to test the strength of her structure by using weights.  Nandini discovered that her structure could safely hold 35lbs.  Her testing did not stop here!

Since Nandini is close to 35lbs. she decided to test the strength herself.  Success!

Wow, the structure was even sturdy enough to hold Prithvi!
